“The Silk Mill Turn Out”: March, Rally and Peoples Festival #Derbyuk Saturday June 18th 2016

Press Release Silk Mill 2016 March

The commemoration of the Silk Mill Lock Out – the historic 1834 year long industrial struggle over trade union rights  – has been moved from its long established date just before May Day (May 1st)to take place in June in the context of a much bigger and more exciting Silk Mill Festival.

It will now take place on June 18th, and will include a march and demonstration with great music on the move, a rally with big name speakers from the trade union and anti austerity movement (including an invitation to Jeremy Corbyn), a laying of a commemorative chaplet at the Silk Mill gates, and a big festival on Cathedral Green including live music, community stalls, kids activities, food and drink, a “people’s picnic” and much more – all MCd by the performance poet, writer and comedian Attila The Stockbroker.
