The Conservatives STPs will break the back of our NHS

Defend our Derby NHS services before it’s too late.

Local Health services are required by the Government to rush through plans about reorganising our health services, dividing the NHS into 44 ‘footprints’. These plans are called Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) and they are being drawn up in secret. If we want to have our say on our local NHS services before it’s too late, we need to see every detail. These plans are over-arching, complicated and despite the talk of efficiency gains, these plans will force local NHS leaders to make impossible decisions to save money. Hence we are supporting meetings and protests and signing petitions, flushing the plans out into the open.

This week yet another shocking report, this time from the Care Quality Commission, told us chronic Government cuts have left the NHS under tremendous threat and is putting lives at risk. And yet the Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) have to drive through another £22 billion of cuts by 2020/21. That works out approximately as half a billion pounds for Derbyshire. (The Government is talking about ploughing more money back in, but it is only talk and but a fraction. Nor is it talking about how much is being siphoned off by big business).

Imagine a properly staffed NHS with doctors and nurses who have the time to look after every single patient properly. This is possible, the money is there but WE have to make it happen.

The local NHS Trusts are in an impossible position. Whatever the government may say, they are facing unprecedented cuts and have hard choices to make if more money is not forthcoming. We will be making sure that there is no reduction of quality.
